Transportation to and from many major destinations in Spain is easy by train, and you can include the city of Malaga in your train travel plains. Malaga's main rail station is Malaga María Zambrano. It is directly connected to Madrid Atocha by the Talgo 200. With the addition of the high-speed train AVE the travel time between Madrid and Malaga has been reduced to just two and a half hours. In addition, Malaga offers two commuter train lines, Cercanías, and a metro system. Whether you arrive in Malaga, by train or air, get around town in your own Malaga car hire.
Part of the rail-route Madrid-Malaga is the Córdoba- Malaga high speed rail line. This is a standard gauge railway line of 155 km in length, and runs at speeds of 300 km/h. It connects Malaga and Córdoba, as well as Madrid and Sevilla. The stations along the line are Córdoba Central, Puente Genil-Herrera, Antequera-Santa Ana and Malaga María Zambrano.
Malaga's main station is named after María Zambrano Alarcón, a Spanish essayist and philosopher. She taught Metaphysics at Madrid University from 1931 to 1936, but was exiled when Franco came to power due to her involvement in the Spanish civil war. In 1981 she was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for her work Communications and Humanities in its first edition, and in 1983 Malaga University named her Doctor honoris causa. In December 2007, when the Malaga-Madrid high speed railway line was opened, the railway company RENFE decided to rename the formerly Malaga Railway Station after her.
The rail routes are a convenient way to get from city to city, but to get around once you arrive you will need a Malaga car hire, which can be waiting at any train station of your choice.
