Best U.S. Fuel Economy

Considering the fuel economy of your next car hire vehicle before you rent is a practical way to be a savvy traveler.  Though you can save a bundle by booking online through CarHireX.com, the savings can also add up by renting the most fuel efficient car to suit your needs.  I found this list of vehicles from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  You can find out more at www.fueleconomy.gov.

Nissan Leaf

The most efficient overall car in the United States is the Nissan Leaf.  However it, and the next three runners up; the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Convertible, the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Coupe and the Honda CR-Z, are not commonly offered by car rental providers.

Volkswagen Golf

At 30 mpg city and 42 mpg highway, the first car on the list that can be commonly found as a car rental is not too bad.  Cars that ranked above the Volkswagen Golf are the Mini Cooper, Ford Fiesta SFE FWD, Toyota Yaris, and the Chevrolet Volt.  

Audi A3

Leading the list of the most efficient station wagons (estate cars) is the Audi A3, which impressively gets the same city and highway mpg as the volkswagen Golf!  

Other notable cars on the list which can commonly be found for hire from United States car rental companies are the Hyunday Elantra, with 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, and the Honda Accord, with 23 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.
