Ankara, the anchor of commerce
The name Ankara has an interesting story: it comes from the word “anchor”, since it is situated in the route of commerce between Persians and Romans.
For this reason it is considered a key city when it comes to commercial activities. Capital of Turkey, this was a title gained after being the place where the Turkish Republic was proclaimed in 1923, and not in Istanbul.
The city has two central squares, Ulus, representing the Old region, and Kizilay housing the Modern region.
