I'll leave you here with my three recommendations if you're visiting Helsinki. I must say it's a lovely city and just being there was a whole new thing. But these would be my three best spots.
The Senaatintori Square, with is Russian air and style, is the centre of the city. Amongst the most interesting buildings surrounding the Square you'll see the University of Helsinki's headquarters and the Lutheran Cathedral.
A few 100 metres from the square, the Kauppatori Fish Market, today a crowded and noisy sales point. If you're looking for gastronomic products, don't hesitate to go to Kaupahalli.
The Temppeliaukio Kirkko Temple is probably the most singular construction in the city. This small space carved in a crag, and especially its vault and worth seeing.
As always, I suggest you hire a car in Helsinki to make your visit and sightseeing more comfortable and personal.
