Tepoznieves Frozen Treats in Mexico

In addition to the amazing Tepozteco pyramid and the mountain hike to get there, the little town of Tepoztlan, Mexico features its own amazing ice cream and sorbet.  Tepoznieves serves up a variety of colorful flavors in an equally colorful environment.  Pick up a cheap car rental from Mexico City Airport for your day trip to Tepotzlan.  

The hike all the way up the mountain to see a smallish and rather un-astounding pyramid may not be for everyone, but frozen treats most certainly is!  I did feel, however, a certain deserving like the hour long hike over steep and often slick rocks earned my nieve (Spanish for sorbet).  Coming back up through the town there are a number of lovely little shops to visit as well, selling beautiful handmade gold and silver jewelry, embroidered clothing, lovely wooden wares, and several other souvenir items.

There are a few Tepoznieves in town, but we chose to eat at the most elaborately decorated.  The Mexican Day of the Dead is approaching soon on November, 5, and the ice cream store appeared to be ready!  It was possibly the largest eatery dedicated solely to frozen treats that I have ever visited, and every where you look was flagrantly decorated.  The flavors of treats included such fun names as "Kiss of Angel" and "Song of Mermaid".  I had mamey (a tropical fruit the color of papaya) with pistachio.  

Instead of driving in our car rental to a restaurant we simply stopped at a little taco stand for fresh made tacos on the way down from the mountain.  All in all my dining experience in Tepoztlan was fantastic.  You can easily reach Tepoztlan in about an hour by car rental from Mexico City, or pick up your car hire from one of our many pick up locations listed for Mexico.
