While booking a car hire in Europe is often more of a hassle and a bit more expensive than in the United States, it can be well worth it considering there are other places where you can make up the savings.
In continuation of yesterday's blog Economical Car Rental in Europe, today I bring you a way to save money courtesy of Rick Steve's Europe: Successful Bargaining Tips! If you plan a budget to do a little (or a lot) of shopping during your tour of Europe anyway, why not brush up on your bargaining skills to off-set the price of your car hire?
Rick is sure to note that haggling is not appropriate everywhere in Europe. You can have quite a good time with a cheap car hire from Athens Airport, visiting all the street vendors to find the best bargains. Likewise, you might find a bargain on fashion while shopping in Marseille, but may not be the best place to test out your bargaining skills.
I particularly like his suggestion in number 6 "Employ a third person." This makes me feel hopeful that, teamed up with the right friend who is good at haggling, I might actually get a lower price for my nick-nacks while traveling. I simply don't have the poker face to "look indifferent" as he says in number 5, but I would be great at acting "worried about the ever-dwindling budget."
