What Fees are Hiding in Your Hotel? 

Don't be surprised to see automatic surcharges and gratuities added to your hotel bill, especially if you're staying with a family or group. These charges average about $15 per day. Other hidden hotel fees may include resort amenity fees and cancellation fees. Decide to stay at your hotel one less night? Expect to be charged a fee for that. No one in your family used the gym? You're paying for it anyway.

While you probably won't be able to avoid extra fees from your hotel you can certainly be prepared. Ask when you make your reservation and again when you check in about all of the fees that may appear on your bill. This way if you won't be using amenities such as valet parking for your car rental you can ask to have that fee removed.
