Beautiful white sandy beaches and bright blue waters are the main attraction on the island of Formentera. There is little commercial infrastructure and no massive buildings here to spoil the gifts of nature. The island's only resort, Es Pujols, consists of small hotels and apartments near the beach. Check out both Es Pujols and some of the other less developed beaches of the island with a Balearic Islands car hire.
Explore Playa Illets during your visit. This white sand beach stretches out for ages along the edge of incredibly clear turquoise waters. It sees the most tourists in the height of summer due to its close proximity of the port and excellent fish restaurants, but you should still be able to find a spot to yourself.
Protected sand dunes provide the backdrop for many of Formentera's beaches. To prevent excessive wear and tear by tourism the island has installed boardwalks that enable visitors to walk, cycle or jog the length of the beaches. Some beaches also have wooden benches placed along the way for stopping to enjoy the view.
As you tour Formentera beaches you may find some of the old huts that the locals have used for fishing boats since antiquity, many of which are still in use today. Handed down through families, they provide a glimpse of the history of the island when fish was the main diet of the inhabitants. Bring along an Ibiza rental car with you on your ferry to Formentera and make you way to some of the islands excellent seafood restaurants.
