Kentucky Derby: Fireworks and Oaks Regulations

One of the biggest, most famous sporting events is just around the corner in my home town of Louisville, Kentucky; the Kentucky Derby!  Called the most exciting minute in sports, the Run For The Roses, as it is called, is just the main event.  In the following weeks travelers from all around the world will hire car rentals in Kentucky to take part in the many fantastic celebrations leading up to the Derby.

One of the big celebrations is happening this weekend, Thunder Over Louisville.  An ongoing Derby tradition that has lasted generations and is still going strong, the massive fireworks display known as simply "Thunder" by locals is an all day event culminating in a light show that can be seen in 3 states!  Hire a car in Louisville, Kentucky this weekend and begin your Derby celebrations early with Thunder over Louisville.

Other events leading up to the big race include the Run For The Lillies, or Kentucky Oaks Day.  Held on the Friday before the Kentucky Derby, the race of the fillies is a fun precursor to the Derby that attracts quite a bit of attention, though not as much limelight as the Derby.  This year, possibly in light of the recent tragedy at the Boston Marathon, travelers in the USA by car rental who attend the Oaks and Derby day events in Kentucky will be subject to additional regulations and scrutiny.  The local news source posted this list of banned items, but the good news is travelers can rest assured Churchill Downs plans to take all the precautions necessary to protect its patrons this year.
