During my most recent trip to Connecticut I was blown away by the beautiful colors of the fall foliage. Indeed, every year people flock to New England in the fall just to enjoy the changing leaves. Many of the locals said that the colors weren't all there; that there had been too much rain so there weren't enough oranges and reds this season.
Though New England didn't make our list of Top 10 Autumn Holidays, I would definitely call it number 11. As you can see from the photos, the yellow and orange hews were quite photo-worthy to me during my tour of Hartford by car hire.
To get out and enjoy as much of the beautiful weather and autumn colors by car rental as possible we decided to drive up to Talcott Mountain and take the short, 30-40 minute hike to Heublein tower at the top. Many other locals had the same idea and along the trail we passed a boy scout troop, many couples, and several families.
The tower was somewhat interesting and offered a nice view, but not too memorable of itself. I got the impression it was built many years ago by some wealthy and eccentric person and now serves little to no function other than a rather nice view over Hartford.
I had the best time on the way back down the hill from the tower. Only then could I really enjoy the farmland scenery for what it was worth (like the picture above), and the cooler afternoon air felt good after the long hike uphill to the tower.
