The Arab Quarter of Albayzín is located in a hill facing another hill with the Cathedral.
Here you can feel Granada’s Moorish atmosphere. Back in the 13th century, Muslims wanted to build a fortress and they had over 30 mosques, which became Christian churches.
This quarter is full of Carmenes, which are big houses, surrounded by gardens and walls, so that they can’t be seen from the outside. These were typical Moorish constructions. Its streets are narrow, uphill and with a strong jasmine smell all around.
Hire a car in Granada and drive uphill for spectacular picture views of the city on the Alhambra.
