Fantastic tour in Athens

Modern Athens is divided into zones, and Plateia Sindagmatos is the centre of the city, Athens' top tourist sites are within radium of less than an hour from this square, a rental car in Athens is an option.

Other symbolic places are Akropoli and Lykavittos hill_._ There's a historical complex named Pláka under the Acropolis, to the east of Agora. In spite of being too commercial for my taste, this is probably the nicest area to walk-tour. Its narrow streets are full of buildings from the 19th century, souvenir shops and bars. One area in particular, Anfiotika, base of the Acropolis is a charming quarter where you can feel the style and atmosphere of a Greek town.

Besides walking around its streets and living the Greek culture while having a cup of coffee, the best in Plaka are its museums. There's also the Monastiraki bazaar, which is a sample of typical lifestyle in Athens, and Psirri, full of trendy bars, restaurants and discos. To the other side you'll find the Kolonaki quarter, way more modern and wealthy than the rest. Touristic season starts from April to October, with the highest amount of visitors in August, the city is crowded and warm.

You can buy a pass to all archaeological attractions in Athens. This pass is valid for four days, it costs 12€ and you can get it in any of the attractions, included: the Acropolis, the Theatre of Dionysius, the Agora, Kerameikos, the Roman Forum and the Temple of Zeus in Olympia.
