I recently did a little antique shopping with a]3 and the stores I found were marvelous!  Located in a lovely shopping district called the Zona Rosa I found a sort of semi-indoor mall full of several different antiques store fronts.  The stores were each very small with most items visible through a large front window.   Visitors are free to browse the windows and take photos, and if you would like to see or know more about a particular item you simply ring the bell for the shop keeper.  There was a sign on one store front saying the items had been featured in National Geographic!

If you're like me, antique shopping can be something you just stumble upon on your tour by car rental like a pleasant surprise.  For a little more planning you can find out where stores are located and add the visit to your itinerary, but don't forget to check the local papers as many cities have regular antique markets set up during the month.  In smaller cities where there may not be antique shops or a specific antique market, you can often find antiques and other vintage items at the local crafts market, which was the case in Tepotzlan on my recent visit there.
