Its nice to know that theme parks have more to offer than just overpriced junk food and entertainment, some theme parks actually do their part to give back to the environment, and in the case of SeaWorld, care for and rehabilitate wild animals.
On March 11 SeaWorld's team of turtle experts returned their 1,000th sea turtle to the wild in the waters of Canaveral National Seashore. The park began its turtle rescue program in 1980 and since then more than 1,530 sea turtles have been cared for by the park's vets and turtle experts. You can reserve a car hire from Orlando Airport for a visit to SeaWorld to show your support for their efforts.
The turtles brought to Seaworld for medical care are rescued by SeaWorld staff or brought by concerned citizens. Sea turtles face a number of perils, most recently oil contamination from the Gulf oil spill, but several are injured by fishing nets, fishing line and hooks, ingestion of trash, boat strikes, or natural causes.
