On July 8, 1776 the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence were held in Philadelphia 's Independence Square. On July 4th of the following year the event was commemorated by adjourning Congress and celebrating with Bonfires, bells and fireworks. The custom eventually spread and includes processions, picnics, contests, games, military displays, and of course fireworks.
July the 4th celebrations are easy to find all over the nation, but no place celebrates the holiday quite like the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. Plan to join the party this 4th of July with a car hire in Washington Airport, surrounded by the historical monuments remembering the great leaders of the United States of America.
This year is the 30th anniversary of 'A Capitol Forth' Independence Day celebration, and includes a concert, fireworks, and fun activities. It will be hosted by Jimmy Smits and include performances by Reba McEntire, Gladys Knight, Darius Rucher, David Archuleta, Joshn Schneider, classical pianist Lang Lang with the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Choral Arts Society of Washington.
The celebration will be broadcast on PBS television station and you can find more about the event from their website. Make summer plans with your family to attend the concert and fireworks with a seven seater car rental from Washington Airport.
