My most recent visit to Spain inadvertently turned into a tapas tasting tour, which was fine by me. Of the five girls I was traveling with only one seemed to prefer touring around in the car hire over tasting tapas, but she was still stuck on a diet to fit in her bride maid's dress and I think all the delicious temptation was too much for her.
Five of us flew into Barcelona Airport and picked up a 7 Seater Volkswagen Touran car rental there (which we split for a really good price) to enjoy the city for couple days before the wedding of our college friend Taiisha.
The ceremony was to be held in the nearby town of Martorell, and since Taiisha's fiancé (who is from Spain) had plans to guide us around some of the highlights of Barcelona we thought we would just freely roam the city by car rental.
From the first tapas bar we stopped in at it was obvious that none of us had ever had such a delicious combination of small dishes, expertly paired with the most perfect Spanish wines. We got several recommendations from both locals and other tourists for other tapas bars we just had to check out, and thus began our tasting tour through Barcelona.
My only regret was that I didn't get to travel to more cities and experience the flavors from different areas of Spain. I've heard great things about the tapas in Seville, and I would love to one day plan a wine tasting tour in Bilbao.
