The beginning of the spring in Mallorca is marked by the Semana Santa celebration, which is a great tradition and devotion here. During this week, there are processions in different parts of the island, the most important being the one held in Palma on Maundy Thursday. This celebration is dominated by the Sant Crist de la Sang; this brotherhood is the oldest in the whole Mallorca. The first time it ever celebrated this Maundy Thursday procession was in 1552. Other important celebrations in April include the Wine Fair in Pollença, where a great number of wine stores participate, the Fiesta de Sant Marc en Sineu, where it's common to eat snails; and the fairs of Calvià, Andratx, Estellencs and Santa Eugènia, organizing a native birds contest.
