Chateau d'If in Marseille

Chateau d’If is located in Marseille’s Bay and it’s one of the top tourist sites to visit in France. Built on a small island in the Frioul Archipelago, it has overwhelmed  tourists throughout time.

In the 16th century, Marseille was many times besieged, so it was decided to build a fortress castle in this island. It was also used as a prison, a great number of pirates and prisoners have passed by this edification, such as the legend of the Man in the Iron Mask, they also say that Marquis de Sade was here, as well as the Mirabeau Count…
