Cycling For All in Denmark

Next week kicks off the 2012 Giro d'Italia, known as the world's most difficult bicycle race.  Well, a little over a week as I just checked the GiroInDenmark.com countdown clock and it currently reads 8 days, 3 hours, 6 minutes and counting.  Also espoused to be one of the world's most beautiful and scenic races, this year it starts in Denmark and you can get in on the action with a cheap car hire from Copenhagen Airport in Denmark.

Although the official sign up has already closed, you can still participate in Giro d'Italia Cycling For All in Heming on the first day of the race, Saturday May 5, just without registering your race timing.  Oh, and you can still get a t-shirt.  The race is just one part of three stages to win the famed pink jersey, or Maglia Rosa, hence all the pink adverts and such.  If you haven't heard of this race before you might be surprised to learn more than 250,000 visitors will flock to Denmark to stand on the sidelines of this picturesque gauntlet of bicycles, and millions more will be watching televised from home.

Travelers who love cycling will love Denmark anytime of year.  The Danes love their two-wheeled, man-powered transportation and you can find bike-riding throughout the year.  A number of excellent tours of Copenhagen can be done by bicycle, but what's more remarkable is how much commuters in Copenhagen rely on them.  The city's official vision is to become the "world's best bike city", and it was named the "world's first bike city" by the International Cycling Union.
