High Pyrenees Skiing, Spain

Forming a natural border between Spain and France, the high Pyrenees mountain range is one of the most beautiful regions of Europe and the best place in Spain for a serious winter ski holiday by car hire.  Over 200 of the mountain summits in the Pyrenees reach taller than 2,000 meters, with the highest being Pico d'Aneto on the Spanish side.  Both sides of the Pyrenees have wonderful ski resorts, totaling around 40 different resorts between France, Andora and Spain, with at least 16 to choose from in Spain alone.

The winter resort regions on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees are typically broken down into regions: Aragon, Catalonia and Andorra.  This collection of mountainous resorts are rivaled only by Switzerland.  With more than 450 kilometers stretching from the Cantabrian Sea to the Mediterranean, the ski resort options are seemingly endless by car rental in Spain.

Aragonese Pyrenees

Formerly a kingdom of Northern Spain, many of Spain's best ski resorts are located in Aragon.  Top resorts in this area include Astún, Candanchu, Cerler, Formigal and Panticosa.

Catalan Pyrenees

Catalonia is located north-east of the Iberian Peninsula and known for its sophistication, delicious cuisine, unique language, and most importantly, for it's diverse and awe-inspiring landscape.  Ski resorts to look for here include Baqueira-Beret, Boi-Taüll and Molina.

Andorran Pyrenees

Andorra sits on the border of Spain and France.  In addition to excellent skiing it is well known for it's duty-free shopping.  Among the Andorran pine forests, high mountain peaks and glacial lakes are regarded some of the most pristine resorts in Europe, including Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter and Pal.
