Take an afternoon drive along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea by Alicante car hire to the Spanish town of Calpe. Located in the comarca of Marina Alta, Calpe is in the province of Alicante, but about 67 km outside the city. It lies at the foot of the Natural Park of Peñón de Ifach (Ifach Rock), and makes for a lovely daytrip.

The town of Calpe has many Iperian, Roman, and Arab archeological sites, including the ruins of Los baños de la Reina, (the queen's baths). Among the other popular tourist spots in Calpe worth a visit are its salt flats, a lovely bird sanctuary for migratory birds, an impressive Gothic Catholic church, and the tower of La Peça, which dates from the 18th century.
