Le Panier, in Marseille

To the south of France, you’ll find the city of Marseille, second most populated in the country and a very popular site amongst international tourists. It’s an old city, rich in history, however most of the historical quarter was destroyed during the Second World War.

Marseille was rebuilt and after the 50's decade a lot of immigrants came and gave the city the evident and very attractive cultural variety it owns today.

One of its oldest quarters from centuries ago is called Le Panier; it was the first village in Marseille. It stands next to the Vieux port and here where most immigrants live.

It used to have a bad reputation but now, it's very far from that image, picturesque facades, painted beautifully, cafés, restaurants, bars, and stores make it a must see spot in Marseille.

Not to miss is the Place de Lenche, the Place des Treize Cantons with its famous chocolate store, and the Vieille Charité, which houses several museums.
