Focus Goes Electric in 2012

Everyone's favorite economy, estate, and compact car rental goes electric in 2012.  Led by Ford's new butterfly electric campaign, Ford announced at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show that the Focus, along with other popular cars in their line up including the C-Max will be relaunched in electric versions in 2012.  We can all look forward to a greener travel future with entirely electric car rental fleets sure to follow.

Ford's new range of electrified vehicles includes a C-Max Hybrid, C-Max Electric and the Focus Electric, Ford's first ever emissions-free battery electric car.  Ford has also taken great steps to ensure ease of use for a wider range of car buyers by partnering with the Best Buy Geek Squad to assist in installation of their home charging stations.

How does this effect electric car hire?  With charging stations easier to install and more accessible and vehicles that charge more quickly, it is just a matter of time before popular vacation resorts capture the green car rental market and offer the new Focus Electric car hire along with several strategically placed charging stations.  Imagine picking up your electric car rental at the airport, being able to charge up at your hotel as well as a few of the top tourist spots in the city, and never needing to buy petrol during your vacation.

Would you be willing to pay a premium price for a green car hire experience like the one described above?  Check out this clip from the Detroit Auto Show.
